Big Thanks, dear Scorp!
I still remember how cool the first Matrix movie looked in cinemas back in the old days. It was a revelation, brought the concept of cyberspace to the attention of a broader public and offered great production designs. Yet, even back then I felt that TRON had been more daring and innovative in terms of cyberspace visualizations. In the even older days of 1982 it sucked us into an artful virtual reality and offered a critical comment on the computer game industry (with gifted programmers ripped off by bigger corporations). The Matrix Resurrections now also uses the gaming industry as a topic, but only to provide a reasons to come up with another Matrix movie in a trilogy that was finished already. To be honest, I was curious and interested first, but in the end I didn’t know why they made this new movie other than for the money. In terms of storytelling this doesn’t really add to the original story. With members of the original cast and all those flashbacks it may feel like some sort of homecoming or revisiting the Matrix, but unfortunately it leaves me quite unimpressed (quite differently from the original movie). And I never understood why – in a digital realm where almost everything was possible – the only ideas they could come up with were martial arts fights, shoot outs and chases. TRON had felt much more innovative with its game grids, i/o towers, the solar sailor and the MCP … Still, visiting the cyberspace is always fun. I wonder how the Metavserse is going to develop … Stay energized, guys! 😉
